On 30 May 2020, SpaceX’s Crew Dragon launched Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley towards the ISS on Demo-2. It was the spacecraft’s first crewed flight under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, followed by their safe return on 2 August. It closes this selected timeline because a commercially built and operated US crew transport reached that testing milestone. NASA funding, oversight and certification remained central; “commercial” does not mean the mission occurred independently of government.
