This historical countdown follows ten steps from the start of the Space Age to the first crewed Crew Dragon flight. We selected events that established a new capability, broadened participation or changed how people live and work beyond Earth; Sputnik is included as an uncrewed foundation. Numbers run from #10 to #1 in chronological order, so #1 means the latest selected event, not the greatest achievement. The scope ends in 2020 and is not a claim to cover every subsequent mission. Dates were checked on 5 October 2026. The story includes Soviet, American, Chinese and international programs, but remains a selective timeline rather than a complete history.
