Political history lives in more than parliamentary chambers. These ten places connect public debate, constitutional government, protest and the struggle against exclusion. We selected sites with a documented political role and arranged them editorially by their usefulness for explaining different democratic ideas, giving additional weight to long-term institutional influence. This is a teaching selection, not a score for a country’s democracy or a complete global survey. Historical context was checked on 5 October 2026. Older institutions often excluded much of the population; a landmark’s symbolic status should not turn those limits, repression or contested histories into a simple story of inevitable progress.
