Choose a phase other than full and study the terminator, the boundary between light and darkness. Shadows make lunar terrain easier to distinguish. Brace your arms or support the binoculars if the view shakes; extra magnification helps little when the image will not stay still.
The Moon wins because detail remains accessible even where faint deep-sky targets fade. The Pleiades offer the stronger star-field experience, but lunar phases give you a changing target to revisit. Which would you put first: surface detail or a sky full of stars?
