The Who connect rock’s physical force with long-form storytelling. Tommy (1969) supplies a rock-opera starting point, while Who’s Next (1971) offers a tighter collection featuring “Baba O’Riley” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” Their official discography explains how the abandoned Lifehouse project became the latter album.
Begin with Who’s Next and listen to how the rhythm section pushes against Roger Daltrey’s vocal delivery, then try Tommy as a continuous work. We favor that combination of dramatic ambition and force over AC/DC’s consistency. The counterargument is that The Who’s strongest concepts and peaks need not make their entire catalog more compelling. Put live-band interaction first and their case for a top-five place becomes stronger.
