The 2015 visible-light view of the Eagle Nebula’s Pillars of Creation shows gas and dust sculpted by nearby young stars. Intense radiation and stellar winds erode the structures. It belongs here because star-forming scenery is also a landscape being changed by stars.
Follow the dark trunks up to their illuminated edges. Contrast helps reveal boundaries, but darkness is not empty space. This is the visible-light Hubble version; identifying the instrument and wavelength avoids confusing it with later infrared views.
