Segovia takes third because the royal halls make its dramatic exterior more than a scenic stop. Look for the Galley Room’s ship-hull-shaped ceiling and the Pine Cone Room’s carved ceiling. This palace-and-fortress combination places it ahead of Chillon’s more compact architectural range.

The 1862 fire damaged the building; restoration is part of what you see. Book ahead and check whether your ticket includes the Juan II Tower, whose places can sell out. Read the room guide before treating every decorative surface as medieval.
