Toyota launched the A80 Supra in May 1993 with naturally aspirated and turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-sixes. The turbo version used the 2JZ-GTE; its RZ grade offered a six-speed manual. Those details should not be applied to every A80 or inferred from this photograph.
It earns third for an engine-centred performance identity that offers a clear rival to the NSX’s chassis-led argument. We prefer the Honda’s original design concept, but Supra fans can defend the reverse order. Modified horsepower claims do not establish what the factory road car achieved.
