Lexus announced the LFA with a 500-car production limit. Its 4.8-litre naturally aspirated V10 and carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic structure make a different case from the turbocharged cars near the top. This entry concerns the production coupé, not a later concept.
We reward that engineering ambition while placing broad appeal above exclusivity, which keeps it behind the Supra. If the greatest Japanese car means the most extraordinary mechanical project, fourth may be too cautious. Its limited run is a fact, not evidence that it must win a subjective ranking.
