The 1970 Chevelle SS could take the LS6 454-cubic-inch V8, catalogued at 450 hp. LS6 matters: an SS badge alone does not identify that engine. It represents big-engine muscle in an intermediate Chevrolet.
It beats the Daytona for expressing the genre through its road-car engine package instead of a specialised racing silhouette. We put the Hemi ’Cuda higher for technical personality, but Chevrolet fans have a strong counterargument: the Chevelle’s less exotic shape keeps the engine at the centre of attention.
