Presented as the 901 in 1963 and subsequently renamed 911, this sports-car family has repeatedly evolved around a sloping roofline and rear-engine proportions. Round headlamp themes and the rearward cabin profile provide continuity even as technology and dimensions change. It takes first place for making evolution itself part of a recognizable design language. The photograph shows a later 911, illustrating that continuity rather than claiming to depict the 1963 launch car.
