The production 300 SL coupé appeared in 1954. Its roof-hinged doors respond to the high sides of the tubular frame, turning a structural constraint into its defining gesture. A low body and strongly drawn wheel arches reinforce that connection between engineering and appearance. It belongs in this selection because the doors are more than a visual trick: they explain the car’s construction. The later roadster uses a different opening arrangement.
