The DS made its public debut at the Paris motor show in 1955. Flaminio Bertoni’s streamlined body and the car’s hydropneumatic suspension present comfort as an integrated design idea. The tapering rear and smooth surfaces make it read differently from a conventional upright saloon. It earns this position for connecting a striking exterior with a distinctive engineering approach; later headlamp revisions should not be mistaken for features present on every early DS.
