Which smartphone feature deserves first place: a tool you use every day, or one that saves your information when something goes wrong? Our answer is automatic backup. That is a deliberately debatable choice: this countdown puts practical protection and everyday convenience ahead of spectacular camera modes or the newest AI demonstrations.
These useful smartphone features are for ordinary phone owners, whether you are planning a trip, handling paperwork or helping a family member make text easier to read. We rank ten software tools by breadth of everyday use, the problem they solve and the value of setting them up in advance. The order is editorial judgment, not a measured performance test or popularity survey; we do not assign numerical scores.
The examples use iPhone settings and Android tools documented by Apple and Google, checked on 5 October 2026. Menus and support depend on the model, software version, language and region. Google apps and services are examples where available, not features guaranteed on every Android phone. Illustrations are conceptual, not screenshots.
Our ranking gives resilience extra weight. If reading small text is your main barrier, #10 could reasonably be your #1; frequent travelers might choose offline maps instead. Which would you move to the top, and what everyday problem would it solve?
