Berlin earns tenth for the Brandenburg Gate, Museum Island and the Berlin Wall Memorial. It is a compelling first stop when understanding division and reunification matters more than collecting postcard views.
We put it below Vienna because palaces and a historic central walk are a stronger match for our chosen brief. That is a preference, not a verdict on cultural importance. Pair the Gate with the Wall Memorial to give the trip a clear theme; do not mistake a photo of a landmark for understanding its history.
