Mount Kenya is an extinct volcano whose forests and alpine habitats rise towards sharply eroded peaks. UNESCO recognizes its ecological transitions and links to surrounding lowland conservation areas. It earns a place for the contrast between tropical latitude and high-mountain scenery, rather than as an easy summit outing. Plan around altitude and protected-area rules; appreciating the lower slopes is a different undertaking from technical climbing on the highest peaks.
