An arcade is a sequence of arches carried on supports. The Doge’s Palace photograph shows repeated pointed openings along its upper level. Follow one opening across to the next rather than treating the entire patterned façade as a single arch.
Notice both the supports and the gaps: repetition produces a rhythm along the building. This belongs here because it connects individual columns with an extended architectural arrangement. The term describes the arches, without establishing a date or making every covered walkway a cloister.
