A rose window is a circular window divided into a radiating pattern. Chartres Cathedral’s north rose shows the Virgin among kings of Judah and prophets. Start with its round outline, then follow the arrangement of coloured panels around the centre.

Separate the stone framework from the images in the glass. That helps you describe the window before interpreting its religious programme. It belongs here because architecture can organise light and imagery together. The windows underneath belong to the composition, but are not the rose.
