The original DS combines two screens and touch input with games such as Nintendogs and Brain Training. Nintendo’s hardware page also documents a slot for Game Boy Advance cartridges, playable in single-player mode. That feature belongs to the original DS shown here; later DSi models differ.

It beats Wii because we prefer portable, two-screen experimentation to motion-led living-room play. Game Boy edges it for simplicity. DS can jump above both if interacting with a game in different ways is your priority. We assess the games and hardware, without promising that historic online services still run.
