At Santiponce, near Seville, Itálica offers an amphitheatre within a wider archaeological ensemble of streets, houses and mosaics. The local council estimates its ancient capacity at about 25,000 spectators. That figure is an estimate, not an exact surviving seating count, and it is not what determines this editorial position.
Build your visit around the connection between public entertainment and daily urban life. After studying the arena, use the rest of the site to change scale: from a mass gathering to individual homes. Itálica earns its place because an amphitheatre makes more sense when you also consider the city that sustained it.
